Cash for Gold, Part Two
Alright, so, as mentioned, Sarah and I hit one more sale last Friday.  I believe this one was in Trenton.  When we arrived at the sale, it was immediately clear that this person was rich, and that they had a lot of time to buy rich people things. The first room was filled with these elaborate dollhouses.  They were all pretty remarkable.   What’s interesting about these type of...

Holy Grail: Vintage Egg Scales
My last “Holy Grail” post was about items I could probably never afford, but today’s entry is a bit different.  I REALLY want a vintage egg scale (hence, “holy grail”), and technically I could afford one.  The thing is though, I prefer to find one of these at a sale.  I’ve NEVER seen one in person and I think the thrill of discovery would be half the fun as...

Cash for Gold, Part One
Sarah and I headed out on Friday a little disorganized.  Neither of us had really looked at the sales for the day, so we haphazardly chose a route based on which sales were closest. I’ll probably screw up the order in which we actually went to the following sales, but you’ll get the idea. We started out at a sale in Livonia that could only be described as a bunch of...

Hard to Resist: Cottonball Bunny & Children of the...
Here’s our latest installment of items we found pretty hard to resist! The craftsmanship on this cottonball bunny is pretty remarkable.  I couldn’t find a maker’s mark on it, but I’m sure the artist was professionally trained. I mean, look at that whisker placement!  Spot on! P.S. I thought about asking Sarah how much she would pay me to eat one of those jelly beans,...

Simsbury Treasures
I was out of town last week visiting my brother and his family. They live in West Simsbury, CT, which is a lovely place. Lots of rolling hills and mountains and lush greenery, and lots of curvy roads that make me carsick. Turns out that riding in a Jeep with it’s top off makes me even more carsick.  So out on the East Coast, I guess everyone calls garage sales “tag sales.”...

Money Maker: Antique Metal Molds
By now you are all well acquainted with the “best sale ever”, and even though I got a million treasures there, the most lucrative by far were the antique metal molds.   Like I mentioned, I’ve known for awhile that antique chocolate molds are collectible, but that’s about all I knew.  So here’s what I discovered after buying a bunch of them… First off, not all...

Best Sale Ever: Round Two
So you heard all about our best sale ever experience, which was SO GOOD that we actually went back to that same sale the following day.  Sarah and I both knew that we had left behind a lot of uncovered treasures.   I started day two in the basement, where I uncovered an entire box of silver-plated Wallace sleigh bells.  I figured these were probably pretty collectible, and at the very least, the...

Best Sale Ever: Round One
Last Thursday, Sarah was going to come over and help clean up my garage after our big sale the previous week.  She mentioned that there was an awesome-looking sale out near Commerce that we should go to while she was over, but I felt overwhelmed with other work I had to do that day. Somehow Sarah convinced me to ignore my other obligations and go with her to this sale. GOOD THING because it...

Nowhere to Run
Last Wednesday, my dad and sister came out to meet George.  There happened to be a sale nearby (strange for a Wednesday), so we decided to go. The house was certainly packed, with both items and people.  You could barely move around, which was frustrating and treacherous, considering the amount of glass items stuffed onto every table.   All of the items were nice, but nothing super...

Gone Swimmin'
DTT is going to be on vacation for the next week, so there will be no updates. I know you’re all devastated. I’m actually on vacation (in real life, visiting family), and Erin is on vacation in her mind. While we’re taking this well-deserved break, we are going to work on updating our content. But let me just say up front that Erin and I did something together this past Thursday...

Holy Grail: Sailors' Woolies
In our “Holy Grail” posts, we’ll be discussing some treasures that we, as of now, only dream of owning. My first desired item is any type of antique “woolie,” typically made by British sailors before WWI. These adorable, folky wool pictures were made by sailors trying to pass their time at sea. Some are crazy intricate and well-made, and others are kind of crummy and...

Fave Find: Ship Prints
Zach and I had been looking for awhile to find some nice artwork for our dining room.  I had chosen quite the ornate pattern of wallpaper for that room, so appropriate decor was proving difficult to find.  I randomly drove past an estate sale while out running errands, and stopped.  Good thing, because I found some beautifully framed ship prints that matched our wallpaper exactly. From what I...

You can find it at the market...
Somehow after the epic garage sale this weekend, I was still in the mood for more junk.  So on Sunday, Zach and I headed to a huge outdoor flea market just a couple miles away.  First of all, let me say, that when I hear the word “flea market”, I inevitably have this song stuck in my head for the next 3 days: Our flea market was less “mini mall” and more junkyard mecca....

Cold Ones Left
So as you heard, this past weekend was the big DTT garage sale.  I’ve been really busy with work lately, so this was a good chance to relax outside with some beers and meet the neighbors.  It was also a good chance for Sarah to sell a million things you’ve seen her buy on this blog. We were rolling pretty deep with items, but neither of us thought to take a photo at the start of the...

The Real Doll House
We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to get to any sales at all this past weekend due to our huge and awesome garage sale, but we ended up finding a little bit of time to do so. On Thursday, there was a sale in Dundee which is about 15 miles from where I live, so I stopped by later in the afternoon by myself. The pictures looked intriguing, and Dundee is a sort of working class area....

Hard to Resist: Psycho II Posters and Garage Sale...
It’s time again for some items that were seriously hard to resist purchasing.     Alright, so people say Psycho is a movie classic, but have you seen Psycho II?  Oh you haven’t?  You say that no one saw Psycho II?  Hm, ok. What about some “art” that we found at a garage sale?  I call it Devil in a Pink Dress. I love this little raggedy ass doll.  Look closely, he...
