A Much Needed Hug

So yesterday was kind of a bummer.  I decided to give Everett a haircut and accidentally buzzed off the front right half of his hair with the clippers.

The front right part in the photo above is all now super super short like baby hair.  We have to part the rest of his hair over it like a comb over.  Ugh.  Rookie mistake.  I should have left the top part alone.

I was also bummed because it turns out that my insulators were indeed irradiated.  I have to refund the dude his money.  I’ll do a longer post about this soon, but the whole exchange has been quite the debacle.  So much for a Christmas present shopping spree :(

So with all that sadness in my heart, I was thrilled to see a package arrive from mega kind and generous reader Kevin.

He had mailed me my very own Big Hug Mug!!  (If you don’t remember what the deal is with this mug, check out this post.)  Kevin had spotted the mug, through the window, at an estate sale.  He paid a whopping 50 cents for it!  Amazing!

I love that he took this photo.  It cracks me up!

So here it is in all its glory!  I was going to surprise Zach with this for Christmas, but couldn’t contain my excitement.  He was so happy!

So thank you Kevin!  What a seriously rad thing to do!  As for the rest of you readers, time to step up your game.  I know we’ve been bad bloggers, but maybe if you send us more presents we would work harder ;)

Big Hug Update

Wow, we’ve been Extreme Slackers lately. No, in all seriousness, things have been super hectic and busy so while we’ve got some things to write about, the time has just been escaping us.

More posts will be forthcoming, but in the meantime, we wanted to give you guys a Big Hug Mug update. First, and most importantly, Adam’s Big Hug Mug sale did not disappoint:

Also on the Big Hug Mug front, Erin and I have not found another since the discovery. How this is possible, I am not sure.

However, I just did a quick search to see if these babies are still hot commodities and they are. And another interesting thing I discovered is that some a-holes are actually making money selling fakes.

image

I guess this one sold to someone who is color blind.

Here’s another fake with a questionable color:

That one sold for $36. What the heck?!

There are few things that annoy me more than FAKE THINGS. Ugh.

The legit ones consistently sell for much more, so all you hunters should still keep your eyes peeled!

Big Hug Mug Hunt

Are you watching HBO’s new show True Detective?  If you are, then first things first: I am the Yellow King.

image

Ok seriously, everyone watch this show.  It’s incredible.  Matthew McConaughey is brilliant.  You may have loved him in How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days, but on this show he is EVEN BETTER.

Also featured on the show is this mug:

I had never seen this mug before, but apparently it is a thing.  Sarah said she sees them all the time at sales.  The mug was sold by FTD the flower company and came with a bouquet inside.  I guess everyone on Earth got sent one of these in like the 90s.  I didn’t get one because I live a sad and lonely life (because I am the Yellow King).

Anyway, since I am obsessed with True Detective, I decided I wanted one of these mugs.  So off to eBay I went.

image

WAIT. What’s this?! Big Hug Mugs are selling for crazy money on eBay?!

I needed to find myself a Big Hug Mug fast…and then sell it!  Turns out, Sarah was also on the hunt:

It also turns out that Sarah already owns a Big Hug Mug (shocking I know).  She probably got it at this sale

Everett and I headed out to a nearby thrift store yesterday to try and get our own mug.  I was sure we would find one.

The mug pickings were slim.  There was no Big Hug Mug to be found.  Things looked dire.  Everett wanted this afro rocking horse, but I told him we had to press on.  We left the horse behind.

image

Ok, so we didn’t find a Big Hug Mug.  I was bummed.  We are actually going back out today to search again.  If you have a Big Hug Mug, please hurry up and go donate it now to a Metro Detroit thrift store.

What we did find was this:

This vase looked old and well-made, so I looked up the maker on eBay.  Turns out that these things sell!  And well!  I was thrilled.

I paid a whopping 99 cents for the vase and will be putting it up on eBay soon.

So not a totally disappointing trip, although I will not be satiated until I find that damn mug.
